Air quality in Cork was one of the worst in Europe in recent days. Also, spikes in air pollution in Wexford and Enniscorthy meant air quality levels were akin to New Delhi in India.
This worsening air pollution situation has prompted Deputy James Browne, TD for Wexford, to write to Government ministers to ask if national weather forecasts could include expected air pollution levels, similar to pollen alerts. “Research shows that 1,180 people are prematurely dying each year in Ireland and there are 1700 new cases of childhood asthma as a result of poor air quality” said Deputy Browne.
